HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved the building of multiple solar farms in the state, one being in Hattiesburg.
According to Mississippi Power, the commission approved the largest solar installations in the state.
Strata Solar has plans to partner with Mississippi Power and build a 460 acre solar farm between Bonhomie Road and Highway 49 in Hattiesburg.
The project would bring 800 construction jobs to the Pine Belt in 2016.
Other projects include a 52-MW utility-scale solar energy project to be located in Sumrall, and a 23-acre solar project to be located at The Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport.
“These cost-effective, utility-scale solar energy projects once again place Mississippi Power at the forefront of the state’s energy economy by adding renewable energy into the company’s portfolio,” said Mississippi Power President Anthony Wilson.
