The city of Beaufort is partnering with solar energy proponents to encourage residents and businesses to install solar power.
The city is also looking at its buildings to decide which might be a good fit for solar panels, city manager Bill Prokop said. City Council passed a proclimation Tuesday to join Solarize South Carolina and SmartPower in an effort to get more people to try solar.
Solarize South Carolina is a campaign to triple the state’s residential solar power use in two years.
Once 60 residents or businesses sign solar contracts, the city will receive a free system to be installed on a building of City Council’s choice.
